Nature Scavenger Hunt

Nature Scavenger Hunt

A trip to the park takes on a new sense of adventure when you create a NATURE SCAVENGER HUNT together!

First, make a list of things you want to seek. Littles will love to find different colors and shapes. But don’t forget to play with finding different textures too! We searched for things that were: fuzzy, smooth, rough, soft, and round.

Bigger kids can explore searching for manmade versus nature-made things. And everyone will get a kick out of finding something beautiful and finding something funny looking!

You can even include your other senses on your journey! Can you find something that smells wonderful or makes sound?

One of the best things we can teach our littles is to pay attention to detail. So get ready to see your local play spot with a fresh set of eyes. Your little explorer will learn and grow each step of the journey!

KIDDO KAZOO!

IMG_4997We all know that the things that keep kids entertained the longest are the noisiest! So instead of fighting the commotion, we decided to embrace the hullabaloo with our KIDDO KAZOO!

1. Add glue to a recycled toilet paper core. We painted ours on with a paintbrush, then decided to just roll it in the liquid goo for messier fun.

2. Start collaging different pieces of paper to your core. This is a great time to review colors and shapes – Even textures if you have a variety of papers. Play with overlapping collage pieces for a more layered look.

3. Top with a small square of wax paper & a rubber band. Then let the kazoo cacophony play out!!

Easy Breezy Octopus

Easy Octopus

We’ve been obsessed with everything Ocean related since our Labor Day trip to the beach. If it swims, we want to explore it! After counting octopus tentacles for the umpteenth time, we decided to make our very own Easy Breezy Octopus!

1. Cut a paper plate in half and decorate the front to be your sea creature’s face. You can even talk about how octopus change colors to camouflage themselves with the color of their surroundings!

2. Count 8 leftover crepe paper party streamers together. What could you do if you had 8 hands?! Glue them to the back as silky tentacles.

3. Watch as your ocean critter floats around the house, tickling with her tentacles anything in her path!

Butterfly Baggies

In a moment of babysitting desperation, I mean genius, The Butterfly Baggy was born!

Tiny game pieces were everywhere and a bitty sibling (with a tendency to eat everything inedible) was about to wake up. So I said to my toddler pal, “If you help me put the pieces into these little baggies, they will turn into butterflies!” You’ve never seen little hands clean so fast!

Butterfly baggies often take flight with barbie shoes, legos, caps, beads, and coins. But really any small objects you want to gather will do. We added loose stickers to ours here to give her extra pizazz.

Just add a pipe cleaner antennae and kids of all ages will love to see what tiny treasures they can find for their butterfly’s wings. Cleaning up has it’s perks!
