Egg Carton Creation

Egg Carton CreationWith a kiddo, even breakfast can lead to an exciting adventure! So before you take out the recycling, try your hand at our favorite EGG CARTON CREATION!

– Open your empty egg carton and cut it in half longways, right at the fold. Now you should have the two sides separated.

– Use the egg carton’s top half (the more shallow side) as an artists’ palette! Have your little fill each cavity with a new paint color. Maybe leave the last few for “custom colors” where you mix your own favorite shades together.

– Flip the bottom half of the egg carton over so that it has little humps. Now you are ready to paint your Carton Caterpillar! We even glued two googly eyes on the front to complete our cute creature.

– While your caterpillar dries, create a toddler-friendly Color Challenge! Can you find small objects in nature or your house that match each color in your palette?

The egg carton creations are endless. All you need is an appetite and imagination!

Messy Monday!

Messy Mondays! Can we even put the words “toddler” and “manners” in the same sentence without making you burst into a fit of giggles?

Wiggle worms have a hard enough time sitting still, never mind remembering to use their forks. So sometimes the most effective way to teach a toddler table manners is to take a day off! Try your hand at it this “Messy Monday!”

– Spread your picnic blanket on the kitchen floor and get ready to have some foodie fun! Playing on the floor is an important step since it shows toddlers the physical difference between how we act at the table versus when we are playing down low.

– Eat everything with your hands, no utensils allowed. Or better yet, try your hands behind your back and eat just with your mouth! Foods like pudding and pasta noodles work best when trying to slurp up your super silly supper!

– For an added twist, serve the unexpected! Why not have pancakes for dinner? Or spaghetti for breakfast? No rules apply when you are making the most of your family’s Messy Monday!

Under The Sea

Under The SeaIt may be too hot to go outside, but we can bring the beach to you. Our UNDER THE SEA craft project is a crowd pleaser on these humid Summer days. When the weather gets this hot, try your hand at crayon resist art!

All you’ll need is: white paper, crayons, blue paint, a paintbrush, and some water.

1. Have your kiddo color things you find at the bottom of the ocean. Sand crabs, fish, and coral are just a few of our favorites to explore.

2. Mix a little bit of blue paint and water in a bowl to create your “ocean.”

3. Paint the “ocean” water over your coloring. Then watch as your friends from under the sea swim their way to the surface!

Family Flags

Family FlagsWith 4th of July and The World Cup, our littles have been asking a ton of questions about what flags are. The colors, stripes, and shapes are eye catching to toddlers. And the stories behind what each represent fascinate the kid in us all!

So we decided to make our own FAMILY FLAGS this Summer. That way whatever game we play, from hide & seek to racing to clean up, our family team members can root us on from the sidelines!

1. Cut a rectangular piece of paper. It should be small enough to be glued onto the top half of a popsicle stick “flag pole”.

2. Pick what colors you are going to use. Most flags have 3 colors, so chose your top 3 favorite shades.

3. Decide what shapes you are going to use. Circles, stars, moons, and stripes are always fun. What does each shape stand for on your flag?

Every flag has a story! Look at ours here by Hudson. His is red because that’s the color of his front door, and orange because oranges are his favorite fruit. Each star sticker represents a different member of his family. What story will your Family Flags tell?
