Our TODDLER Craft Time Shopping List!

The Ultimate Craft Time Shopping ListMaking your family craft time more exciting can be an intimidating task for some parents. But you don’t have to be a Rembrandt with a Rockefeller budget to take your play to the next level. Investing in a few simple supplies can make all the difference. So take a peek at OUR TODDLER CRAFT TIME SHOPPING LIST!

1. Set of Washable Markers — We love the chubby little ones for our toddlers. Crayola’s Pip-Squeaks are made especially for tiny hands. Plus they come in the most vibrant colors!

2. Roll of butcher paper — You’ll never need to empty your computer printer’s paper tray again. These giant craft paper rolls last a long time. And you can even cover the entire table with them to protect your space.

3. Washable Tempera Paint — You can use a paintbrush, Qtips, plastic forks, or almost anything as a tool to dip into the messy fun! Buy the 3 primary colors: Red, Blue, and Yellow. Then encourage your child to mix their own custom-made shades on a paper plate palette. Bonus tip: Add a bit of water to each of your paints to make them last even longer!

4. Washable Glue Sticks — Give a kid a sticky glue stick, and you’ll see the biggest smile appear. Because even alone, it’s a sensory exploration in itself! Add some collage paper scraps, tin foil squares, or beads and the options are endless!

5.  Googly Eyes — Granted these are less basic than our supplies above, but they make such a huge difference. Googly eyes help all of our best creations come to life! Before you glue them down, try sorting them by size, shaking a bag of them to make a homemade shaker, or counting them in Spanish. Any supply can be used in many ways when you put a little imagination into it!

An Early Start Appreciating Art!

Subway ArtWe believe it’s never too early to start appreciating art! But how do we get those little pair of eyes ready for some big art adventure?

A great way to begin is just to ask “What do you see?” or “What do you notice?” You may be surprised to learn which detail is most captivating to them.

Next, ask them what the story is! If it’s a portrait, ask who the person in the picture is. If there are multiple characters, ask who they are to one another.

If the art is more abstract, start literal and then dig deeper. Ask “What colors do you see?” before asking “How does it make you feel?”

Try your hardest to use open ended questions instead of leading your little to what you believe is the “right” answer. Kids of all ages will love that their opinions are being heard. Especially if you can validate them by saying things like, “I see that too!”

Crafty Cityscape!

Cityscape!

A recent trip downtown had our favorite kiddos in awe of the big city skyline. Then this school’s bulletin board inspired our own creativity. So we decided to make our very own Crafty Cityscape!

All the scrap pieces of paper we had stored away came in handy. We glued the biggest pieces down on a bright blue skyline. Then added little windows and doors, counting as we glued. Some cardboard rectangles, tin foil squares, and spare buttons added texture to our mini masterpieces.

The most fun was deciding what each building was used for. From a kitten hotel to a store full of frogs, our little city was bustling with lots of life!

SHAPE SNOOP SNATCH!

Shape Snoop Snatch!Learning takes on a new level of excitement when kids see how things can be found off the page and in real life! Just this week, a few rounds of SHAPE SNOOP SNATCH reignited our kiddos’ passion for shape recognition. A clock, a ferris wheel, and the moon all made circles enticing again!

Playing is easy! Snoop around (on tippy toes for extra sneaky snooping!) and start to investigate your little’s room, your house, then your neighborhood for each shape. Have your kiddo whisper “Shape Snoop” when they’ve found one. This is great practice in delayed gratification and using their words before action. Then only after you have snuck up on the shape and “caught” it together, exclaim “Shape Snatch!”

Little kids will need clues, or two distinct choices to pick from, when snooping a particular shape. Bigger kids will embrace the challenge of snooping a whole area by themselves. And the tongue twister of “shape snoop” versus “shape snatch!” will entertain all of you!
