Pom Pom Play!

Pom Pom Play

We love PomPoms at SoCal Moms because they keep little bodies busy for a long time. You’ve seen these at the store, but did you know you can use them for a lot more than just crafting?

– Practice sorting them with toddlers. Sort by color or size. And use salad tongs or tweezers to sort for an added challenge!

– Get silly and sort them with your toes! Put some cups down on the ground and kids will get a kick out of filling the cups up with poms using only their feet!

– Move them using only your breath! Just like you are blowing out birthday candles, you can blow them across a table or floor. Make sure you are behind, not above the pom, to make it race the fastest!

Spice Painting!

IMG_4700Your little Picasso has created art that looks good, and maybe even feels good. But have they ever created art that smells good?

Kids of all ages love to explore smell, so this week try SPICE PAINTING!

Mix a bit of water and glue with some of the different spices you have in your cabinet. The brighter hued and strongest smelling work best. Think mint, curry, or cinnamon. You can even add a few drops of extract for extra scented fun. Dip your paintbrush in and try not to get hungry!

Kids Mothers’ Day Ideas

Simple and Sweet Toddler Bird FeederMake a homemade, three dimensional Mothers’ Day card this year with just a few simple craft supplies!

Fold a horizontal piece of paper or card stock in half. After your kiddo writes a special note inside, get ready to make the cover of your card 3D!

Color or paint a few popsicle sticks green and glue them down as flower stems. Then cut some tissue paper squares to add as petals. Feel free to recycle any old, crumpled tissue from your last purchase — the added texture makes the petals look even cuter.

For a more personal touch, grab some stamp pads and add little finger prints as the petals. Kids (young and old) will love the creative process and Grandmas are guaranteed to swoon!

Simple & Sweet Bird Feeder

Simple and Sweet Toddler Bird FeederThis is one of those times when playing with your food is completely acceptable! Let’s make a bird feeder so simple & sweet, even the littlest family member will be able to join in on the fun.

Gather a handful of cereal Os into a bowl. Then take a pipe cleaner (or piece of twine or string) and let your little ones practice threading the Os onto it. Strengthen fine motor skills, practice counting in different languages, and maybe even sneak a snack together. Older kids will enjoy this activity too by bending the pipe cleaner into unique shapes or letters.

Lastly, twist the two ends of your bird feeder together so it can hang easily. Finding the perfect spot for your feeder on a nearby tree or shrub is almost as much fun as creating it!
